About Dyslexia Screening Australia
Why We Exist
Dyslexia Screening Australia was created to ensure no child is left behind, simply because clarity came too late.
For many families, the early signs of dyslexia are recognised long before formal assessment is available. The wait can be long. The process can be confusing. And the in-between stage often leaves parents navigating uncertainty alone.
Dyslexia Screening Australia was built to change that.
Through structured pre-screening and guided next steps, our goal is simple:
To provide early clarity so children can receive the right support sooner.
Founded From Lived Experience
Dyslexia Screening Australia was founded by Bernadette Haigh, a proud dyslexic, mother, and advocate for educational change.
Bernadette was not identified as dyslexic during her schooling years. Like many of her generation, she navigated an education system that did not yet understand how differently wired brains learn.
It wasn’t until her own son was screened that her dyslexia was formally recognised.
That moment changed everything.
Having lived on both sides, as a child who struggled without understanding, and as a parent determined to intervene early, Bernadette saw clearly what was missing in Australia:

Accessible, structured early screening that empowers families before formal diagnosis.
A Different Perspective on Dyslexia
Dyslexia is not a deficit to be fixed.
It is a different way of processing language and information.
When identified early and supported appropriately, children with dyslexia thrive — academically, creatively, and personally.
We believe the true strengths of dyslexic thinking will only be fully realised when early identification becomes standard practice and education systems evolve to support neurodiverse learners effectively.
Screening is not about labelling.
It is about unlocking understanding.
Our Vision
Dyslexia Screening Australia exists to:
• Increase early identification across Australia
• Reduce unnecessary delays in support
• Provide structured guidance for families and schools
• Contribute to long-term educational reform
This is more than a tool.
It is the beginning of a national standard for early dyslexia pre-screening.
Our Commitment
Every child deserves access to the knowledge and support they need to thrive.
Through structured screening and practical guidance, Dyslexia Screening Australia is committed to ensuring clarity comes sooner — so confidence can grow earlier.
